STUDENT SAFETY

IMPORTANT MESSAGE FOR ALL STUDENTS

During the past couple of weeks there have been numerous incidences where students safety has been compromised from cars being stolen to people being approached by groups of men and having their belongings stolen. Flashers have also been encountered. I'm sure you've heard the stories from your friends and facebook but this is just another reminder for all students to take care.

Students should not have to keep worrying about their walk home being safe but unfortunately this is the world we live in, so please take care.

Management has been notified and the police have now been requested to do extra patrols around this area. The IMU security guards have also been asked to walk around the outside areas to help deter unwanted visitors.

In the evenings DO NOT WALK ALONE. Especially for those studying late in the library. Discussions are in progress to perhaps organize groups of people to walk to the separate condos at certain times especially at night, but any ideas to help combat this issue would be greatly appreciated. Would it be worthwhile starting up a simple self defense class to learn some basic moves?

We've read through your comments and appreciate your feedback, so keep the ideas coming in.

Be alert and keep safe.

MORE UNI EVENTS!!

This year the World Mental Health Day falls on the 10th of October 2012 with the theme, "DEPRESSION: A GLOBAL CRISIS" by the World Federation of Mental Health (WMH).

With that, this week, hosted by the IMU Counseling Unit, The Mental Health Week 2012 Committee brings you none other than the IMU Mental Health Week 2012 (IMU MHW '12) themed "Splash Away The Blues. We'll Walk With You."

The IMU MHW '12 will commence on the 1st of October 2012 (Monday) and end on the 5th of October 2012 (Friday).

There's a whole line-up of activities for the IMU community, particularly us, students, from absolutely free workshops (one, with RM3 charge only- Clay Workshop), Mediation Session- by the IMU Buddhist Society, Martial Arts Sessions and so on. To end the week, we have our IMU Music Club to entertain the crowd with some music of course, which could possibly cause some headbanging, possibly! Do come & check it out for yourself yeah!

I will send you the schedule of the whole week by tomorrow yeah. As mentioned, most of the activities are free! This should, by right help to serve as a crowd-puller, supposedly. Thus, help spread awareness to a bigger crowd and educate more students about the mental health issues, mainly, this time around, to help ward off depression or even help those with depression.
