Hey Everyone,

Ever thought of meeting up IMU's very own president? Well, now's your chance to do so. In fact it's not so much as a meeting but a Q&A session, where you, the students get to ask questions from the president,
Ybhg Tan Sri Dato' Dr Abu Bakar Suleiman.
This is a very rare opportunity, almost considered a "once in a lifetime one" for you to meet up with the president of your very own university. The event will be held as part of IMU's 20th anniversary celebrations and here are a few reasons as to why you should be in this Q&A session rather than at home:

1) Students will definitely get to know more about their own university's president.

2) Students will be able to figure out IMU's past, the current status, and the future plans that IMU holds.

3) Students can basically figure out how the president can both be an inspiration as well as a strong pillar in aiding career developments.

4) IMU's 20th Anniversary isn't meant to be celebrated by the faculty and administrative staff only. It requires the contribution and attendance of the students, who make the university a whole. So we kindly request everyone, to take part in this meeting in contribution to you attendance for IMU's 20th anniversary celebration.

So, please, contribute to this event and make the most out of it by submitting your questions to the SRC by 21 Feb' 2011 to the Student Representative Council. Your questions can be anything related to IMU's role in supporting you and it's presidents. We look forward for your questions!!

Book Voucher (EXPIRES ON 31 MARCH 2012)

IMU have collected the Book Voucher from the Ministry of Higher Education and we will be distributing the book voucher from Monday, 16 January 2012. We will work with the Batch reps for a most suitable time for the collection of the voucher.

These are the following points that students need to be aware:

General Info

1. Each students will be given 4 pieces of the book voucher (RM50 per piece)

2. Students must ensure that the voucher has IMU stamp at the back of the voucher

Expiration

1. The book voucher expires on the 31st of March 2012

2. If the voucher is not utilized by 31st of March 2012, you must return the voucher back to Student Services Department (IMU will not give you cash instead, we will return the voucher to the Ministry)

Usage

1. Students can use the voucher in any book store

2. The voucher is for the purchase of academic books, academic magazine and stationaries as required by the university

3. Students need to write their name and IC number on the book voucher

4. The students must show their IC when purchasing the books using the vouchers

5. If the value of the book exceeds the amount of RM200, students need to pay the remaining balance; if the value of the book is below that the amount (i.e. 175) the seller will not give the remaining balance to the students

6. The voucher cannot be exchanged for cash

RM 200 Book Voucher for students

Dear students,

The Student Services Department (SSD) have collected the book vouchers worth rm 200 from the Ministry of Higher Education. They will be distributing the vouchers to the students starting next week, Monday, 16th of January. Only batches that are around in IMU will receive their vouchers first. The rest would have to wait for once you're back from holidays. Each batch will have a SPECIFIC TIME and DATE to collect their vouchers from the SSD.

This arrangement is done to ensure all students receive their vouchers and also its the best possible way to hand out vouchers to the students. Every voucher has a serial number. The serial number of the voucher which each student receives has to be recorded and submitted back to the Ministry of Higher Education.

There is an expiry date which is the 31st of March 2012. Even if you have not received your vouchers yet, please start looking for which books you would like to purchase and then you could get them straight away once you have the vouchers in hand.

Dreams & Wishes CAN Come True

We all have dreams. We all have our wishes. Wouldn't it be great if all our dreams and wishes can come true? Sometimes it is not within our power to make our own dreams come true. But IT IS within our power to make someone else’s dream or wish come true; especially if that someone is a little child living in a home of many wants and many needs – an orphan.

Today YOU can make a small child’s dream come true.

The orphanage from Precious Children Home and Yayasan Sunbeams Home (Two of IMU’s selected beneficiary homes) have sent us a list of their children’s wish for this coming Christmas.

In the spirit of giving, we are asking, most sincerely once again, for you to select one or more wish cards from the children of these homes. The cards are hanging on the Christmas tree at the IMU Atrium. Grant the child his or her wish by buying the item asked for, wrap it into a present and then pass them to us to hang on the tree.

To make it more convenient for you, please send an e-mail to IMUSRC to have a look at the wish list that has been compiled for the individual wish cards for you to select.

20th Ainshams International Medical Students' Congress

Dear Sir/Madam,

My Name Is Ahmed Kolkailah; I'm a member of the organizing committee of 20th Ainshams International Medical Students' Congress that will be held on the 25th of February till 28^th of February 2012 – Cairo – Egypt.

AIMSC provides medical students all over the world a chance to present their research work throughout all fields of medicine as well as Dentistry in an academic competitive atmosphere that is awarded by the AIMSC organizing committee at the end of the congress.

AIMSC offers accommodation in a 5 stars hotel to the students and the professors coming, as well it offers all possible transportation from the airway pickup, all the way through the congress, and driving them back to the airport.

Volunteers for 15th Ottawa Conference 2012

Hey everyone, we're looking for 35 student volunteers for this event which is held from
9th - 13th March 2012 at KLCC. The volunteers will be briefed further about their job description later around February 2012 but so far, we've been told that they'll be in charge of tasks such as ushering.

A little background:
This is the first time the Ottawa Conference is being held in Malaysia and it just so happens that IMU is the host. Held biennially, the Conferences address the important topic of assessment of competence in medicine and the healthcare professions. Participants come not only from medicine, but also from the other healthcare professions, and over 70 countries are represented. Topics to be addressed cover assessment across the continuum of education from undergraduate education, through postgraduate/specialist training to Continuing Professional Development.

How to apply?
Email us at imusrc@gmail.com with your name, batch, programme, ID number, phone number.

In the email, you should also answer three questions as your responses will be evaluated:

1) What do you expect to gain from this experience?
2) Why are you volunteering for this?
3) Please state any previous experiences you may have had in college/university.

Criteria:
1) ONLY applicants using their IMU EMAILS will be entertained.
2) No applying for other people. If you want to apply, you will need to email us directly.
3) In the event that there's an excess of applicants, we will conduct interviews whereby the applicants' responses will be evaluated.

ALL PROGRAMMES and COURSES are encouraged to volunteer.

Student Lounge Opening Hours Extended.

Dear Students of IMU,

We are glad to inform you that the TRIAL PERIOD this past month for the extended student lounge opening hours has been successful. The Student Lounge will continue to open until 2am only Thursday’s, Friday’s, Saturday’s and Sunday’s.

The criteria during the trial period is still applicable now. The criteria must be adhered to and there should not be any problems for this arrangement to remain.

The criteria are as listed below:

1) The Student Lounge will only be open until 2am on Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

2) There must not be any damage to the equipment in the Student Lounge.

3) Only IMU STUDENTS are allowed to enter the Student Lounge especially on weekends.

4) Students should walk safely while walking back to Vista or their cars after 12.00 am onwards until 2 am and should not be harmed in any way while walking back during the trial period.

We would like to stress on the importance on student safety once you guys leave the Student Lounge from 12am onwards, since it’s the main concern of the SRC and the SSD while agreeing to make this change. Please try

to travel in packs or groups when leaving and STAY SAFE.

Dear May Kuan,

Hi, I'm Amanda Khoo Yin Yen, working as an assistant for Prof Chin Kin Fah from UH. I was the one who called you the other day regarding the 30 part time job openings for medical students. Basically, this project is a point prevalence study headed by PENSMA (the parenteral & enteral nutrition society of Malaysia) where my professor whom i work for is involved. The details are as follow:

1. Work - Collect data from hospitals. Its a nutritional based study, students will be trained a day before data collection in a workshop organized by PENSMA where they will learn how to handle various measuring instruments, history taking, proper physical examination , analyzing data etc. After data collection, students will have to analyzed and present their data collected to the team.

3. Place- Hospitals around Malaysia. Can be posted anywhere, i.e Penang, Kedah, Johor, Seremban

4. Accomadation and transportation- All provided and paid for. Good accomadation conditions.

5. Salary- It's a paid job however not sure how much just yet. The company is still trying to negotiated fees.

6. Requirements- Basically any medical students who are interested can participate in this project.

Why should a medical student be involved in this ?

This project is a very good CV booster (national project, prestigious) and you can get paid at the same time. Students can include all the activities that they are involve in and PENSMA will reward all participants with a certificate of appreciation. • Organize meetings and ensure all committee members are informed and any explanations for any absence to committee meetings are to be reported to the president
• Ensure all committee members attend all committee meetings
• Recording and printing of meeting minutes to be verified by the vice president (admin) after every meeting
• Typing and printing of proposals, reports and letters on all issues related to the IMU Ball
• In-charge of events applications
• Issue invitations to VIPs and Seniors of IMU, Seremban
• Attend all SRC meetings regarding IMU Ball with the president/vice president to record meeting minutes
• Conduct surveys in every batch of IMU

Booklet Manager/Vice Secretary

• Aid secretary in all matters concerned

As many of you are already aware, IMU is currently conducting the Annual Student Satisfaction Survey to find out about the students’ opinions on the amenities and aids offered to you by our support services.

Greetings fellow students,

There is going to be IMU Charity Bazaar, for all of you to enjoy and just let loose! The best part is, as the name suggests, it is all for CHARITY! Details for this heart-warming, fun, rad event are as follows:

IMU Charity Bazaar
Date: Saturday, 3rd Dec
Time: 9 am to 3pm
Venue: IMU Driveway
(yoga, salsa, changing of mask performance's venues & times have yet to be confirmed but it'll all be done only on the day itself)

Every department is selling something but here are some of the special highlights:

Dentistry:
- RM5 Dental Screening
- RM5 Salsa sessions
- products like toothpaste, toothbrush, toys, badges or bookmarks, floss.

Marketing & SSD:
- BBQ pit with combo meals set at cheap prices
- Milo Fluz packets (for exam crammers freezing to death in the library :))
- Professional Yoga Sessions guided by instructors (Adult: RM20, kids: RM10)

Pharmacy & Pharmaceutical Chem:
- Soap making demonstration and selling of soap, Go-Green detergent and canned drinks

Human Biology:
- Henna Art Stall (they need volunteers. if you don't know how to do it, no worries cause you will be taught how to. those interested contact me, Sandra Ngu at 0168839596. Certs will be given.)

There's a huge variety of FOOD being sold. (ie. chicken Briyani Rice, Muruku, Pakoda, chicken nuggets, homemade cupcakes & muffins, vegetarian food, organic food, hot dogs, ice cream, steamed corn, brownies, fruit juices, fruit rojak, fruits). Mouth-watering ain't it?

TICKETS ARE FOR SALE to be used as currency in the bazaar!

LIBRARY IS OPEN

LIBRARY REFURBISHMENT

Hey everybody,
As part of refurbishing the library with new furniture, the library will be CLOSED from Friday 18th nov.' 2011 till Monday 20th nov.' 2011.
ON FRIDAY THE LIBRARY WILL CLOSE FROM 3PM ONWARDS.
The vendors basically need a day for setting up the new furniture along with an additional 2 days to clean and dispose of the previous furniture.
Due to this small hiccup, the SRC has managed to OPEN THE PBL rooms during this period. The PBL rooms will be OPEN AS PER LIBRARY OPERATING HOURS.
Another few notices:
1) De'Brio will be operating at the Lower Ground Floor although the library cafe is closed.
2) Books that are due on Saturday and Sunday can be returned as the librarian will be present.
3) Students are advised not to use the lifts opposite student lounge as it will be used for moving the furniture up.
4) Students are advised not to roam around on the 3rd floor on Saturday 19th, as the vendor will be using the outside area in front of the library to set the new furniture up.

FOOSBALL TABLE!

Dear all,

We fixed the Foosball table and now it can be played anytime! You guys can just drop by the src office and get the ball from us. However, we would like to entitle RM40 as deposit for EACH BALL taken out of the office. Basically it's the same concept as the WII.

On a side note, we just bought a few new Wii games after conducting a mini survey. Just drop by our office and check out all these new stuff! :D

GENTLE REMINDER HERE, PLEASE TAKE GOOD CARE OF EVERYTHING IN THE STUDENT LOUNGE AND THE GAMES. Yes, I realized there is only one more functional pool cue stick in the student lounge, I WILL TRY TO FIX IT SOON however, we don't have endless supply of money to fix all faulty items.

There's going to be a special guest coming to IMU this Friday. He has sat in the same lecture theatres, walked the same halls, and stressed over the same tables as all of us! And now, he's a Thomas Jefferson graduate, specializing in surgery at John Hopkins.

He'll be here this Friday, 11th November to show you how he did it, his experience living in the States, and maybe he'll even share some tips on being a good medical student.
